Is it possible to upgrade my iPhone 5 from iOS 6.1.4 to 7.0.4 without getting any invalid sim problems? My phone is currently locked at T-Mobile UK and I don't have a spare nano sim card where I live now. After upgrading to 7.0.4 it will ask me to insert T-Mobile sim card to pass the activation. What to do?

In order to install an iOS update or complete the process on an iPhone that is no longer activated with cellular service, you need to have the no longer activated SIM card that was used with the iPhone when activated inserted in the iPhone, or an activated SIM card being used with another cell phone.
The T-Mible contract ended long time ago tho I don't have the contract sim. So the only way is to bypass it with T-Mobile sim?
What happened to the SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated? If that SIM card was not used with another cell phone, there was no reason to remove it from the iPhone.

I got the phone from a friend that lives in the UK. He said his contract is off and he just gave the phone to me without any sim. The iPhone is unlocked with Rsim so I could use my country sim card. Local phone repairs have the T-Mobile sim but it costs money for the service so that they can pass the activation screen.
