i want to restore my mac pro to its original settings how do I do that?

MY computer is always prompting me to delete files. I have few documents; and my disk is predominantly filled with photos and movies/tvshows. I delete things to store in the cloud. I delete my emails. I've attempted to delete photos and my trash folder has 479 items in it and it will not empty and gives no message as to why I can't empty or delete these files. I backed up the data on my mac a few months ago and would like to restore it to its original settings and start over. Can anyone please tell me how to do this? Thank you.

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch

Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X

OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

because it is three times faster than wireless.
