iPhone 4 won't work without Sim card after resetting it

Since I installed the new iOS 7.0.4 on my phone, my battery keeps on getting worth. Shutting of at 40% sometimes even 60%. I followed the advice to reset the whole phone. After backing everything up with iCloud today, what literally 12 hours took, I finally started. And then this, since I have that phone ( two years, only for Skype and What's app to stay in contact with family and friends at home in Europe) do I never had any problems because of a missing sim card.

I tried to connect it to iTunes without any progress. I don't need a contract or anything I only use it with wifi at home.

So, are there any solutions out for me?

** and yes I tried an older sim card but still nothing.

Sounds so easy! Maybe I can figure one of your ideas out. It's just that AT&T doesn't provide service where I live and the next store is far away. What a f****** mess.

Never had to open the SIM card slot since I got my ( refurbished) iPhone ( which I also had to get started completely from the beginning, it came resetted). But with the new iOS7 ( that makes batteries go nuts and wifi stop working every other day) only problems coming with it.
