I have a brand new mac book pro and apple tv. They were both working well together until I moved back into college. I have both the mac and the apple tv on the same wifi network, but my mac still does not show the mirroring airplay option available.

It may be that your college network is blocking AirPlay or they have a unique way of allowing your devices to talk to each other, ask your IT people.

I was able to use airplay before I got the apple tv by connecting my mac to the tv through the HDMI cord. Do you still think it has to do with the communication between the two and the school's wifi?

Also. I noticed that when I joined the school's network, it didn't ask for my student ID and password like it normally does when I connect to it through my laptop or phone. There is a password I have to put in in order to connect, but I didn't ask me.

Playing content via a cable to the TV isn't the same thing.

Does your network require you to log in through a web page.
