turn off closed captions on hbogo on ipad

Hey Friends, I saw that no one had replied to this I search some other answers and I found a solution that worked for me. In the general settings on my iPad mini I changed the language from British English to regular English and it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

I'm having this problem as well on my iphone 5. My language is already set to English. I rechecked it and it did nothing. Any other solutions? There doesn't seem to be anything within the HBOgo app.

Try settings> general>accessibility> Subtitles and captioning> turn off closed captions.

I recently encountered exactly this issue. I finally realized I had left captions enabled in the default "Videos" app. (Why that setting was overriding HBOGO's setting, I have no idea.) Disabling captions in the Videos app resolved the issue for me.

Nine of the suggestions here worked for me. I am set to English and have closed captions turned off in Settings. Problem only started after most recent OS update.

Tunr off or set to auto the closed captions in Amazon Instant Video app if you have it. That worked for me. Perhaps Netflix CC setting might also affect but that I am not sure of.

I was having this exact same problem and I had never had the closed captions turn on in accessibility but just for the heck of it i went and toggled the setting on in accessibility and back off and that fixed the issue. just a suggestion.

I also had this issue on both iPhone 5 & 5S.... What I did was went to SETTINGS>GENERAL>ACCESSABILITY>SUBTITLES&CAPTIONING> TURN IT TO "ON", then go through each setting and disable switch at bottom to deny app to override, then set each setting to 0% OPAQUE.... AND VOILÀ YOU'RE GOOD!!!

Ok this is a problem I was also having I found that the problem was actually very simple and easy to fix apparently the audio and video in settings will put captions on everything if you select auto or your language go to setting > video & audio > subtitle language and just turn it off the captions will go away then you can set manual caption controls from the actual caption option in settings > general > accessibility > once you see the accessibility screen you should see an option called accessibility menu turning this on will allow you to pull up captions by pressing and holding the menu button allowing you to not have to stop your movie or show to turn the captions back on later as this will bring the caption settings up right in what ever app it is that you are using hope this was helpful please feel free to PM me I always have time for problem solving and have been left with a lot of free time on my hands enjoy and good day/night to you all.

This is how I got rid of subtitles using HBO Now on my ipad. Tap the screen during the video. On the bottom of the screen, the play/pause icon, the line that shows where you are in the show (sorry don't know what that's called) will appear and in the far right bottom corner there will also be a tiny word bubble (whatever you call the bubbles that show what people are saying in comic books.) Press that.
