Uploading DVD's into iTunes?

I recently purchased a Apple TV and all ready love it. My roommate was wondering if there was a way to upload or save a DVD (physical copy) into iTunes so we could watch those without putting a disc into a DVD player? That way all of our movies were on some sort of online libray?

Let me know if I sound crazy for asking! 😝

Getting a DVD into your iTunes library involves 2 broad steps:

  1. Copying the DVD onto your HDD
  2. Encoding the DVD into a format that iTunes (and your devices) can play (E.g. MP4).

Since step 1 is legally contentious, you may have to explore that outside of Apple's support forums.

However, step 2 can be handled by the free (and easy to use) Handbrake.

It works on Windows and Mac. Download it from their homepage at https://handbrake.fr/
