You don't have a virus.

It sounds like the "e" key on your keyboard is broken or stuck. Get it looked at by Apple.

still can't use "e" on either keyboards after rebooted in safe mode...can we not bypass the login?...

There are ways to reset your login password, but the problem is not the login. You'd have a hard time using the Mac meaningfully after login without the letter 'e'.

If it's still happening in safe mode, it's gotta be a hardware problem. It could be a problem caused by the wireless keyboard... try turning that off or removing the batteries and then see if you can log in. If you still can't type the letter 'e', you probably need to contact Apple for evaluation and service.

I'm having the same problem. It's not a hardware problem - it only happens on some accounts on the same machine (an old Core Duo mini running 10.6.8).

Stranger still, I can't enter the letter e using the keyboard viewer. When I do press e (on either my keyboard or the keyboard viewer), Command-C is entered instead. I can watch it happen on the keyboard viewer. It's very strange, and a bit alarming!

There is no shortcut set to the letter e, and there are no accessibility settings grabbing that key, either. Capital E works just fine.

This discussion is a year old - did you ever find a solution?
