Everytime I try logging onto my imac the mute button is grayed out on the screen and the computer is making a continuous beeping sound. Can anyone help?

Go to Systems Preferences > Sound > uncheck the mute button (towards the bottom of the page.

I tried that many times. The problem happens everytime I try to logon.
I have been looking around for you. There are various concrete meanings for a sequence of beeps, one, two three, etc. But the continuous beep you describe does not seem to be regarded with any consistency. The solution that has come up once or twice is to reset the SMC and I am including a link to do that.
