A continuous beeping sound is probably unconnected. check out the links below.

There are various concrete meanings for a sequence of beeps, one, two three, etc. But the continuous beep you describe does not seem to be regarded with any consistency. The solution that has come up once or twice is to reset the SMC and I am including a link to do that.
