Q: I have full wifi connection but my FaceTime calls still don't work, why?

My internet/wifi is working on all my other divices. My iPod will continue to say connecting for some time when I try to FaceTime someone. When I hit end while it still says connecting, it says connection lost. But I still have full wifi connection. I've tried it several times and it does the same. It does the same when I receive calls too. I checked for updates and it says my iPod is up to date. Whats the problem and how can it be fixed?

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 6.1.5

    Hi,

The most likely cause is the ports that FaceTime uses for video that are above the 1024 threshold in your router.

Basically there are 65535 ports in all. (think of them like TV channels).

The first 1024 are always open on most routers.

Web Browsing is on port 80 with some secure stuff on port 443.

Mail uses many ports, 25 is a common STMP (outgoing) server. 110, 565, 568, 998 are common POP server but many are used.

FTP used to upload web pages is on port 21 and 22.

Some app and games use port above this threshold and you have to specifically say to have them open.

There and many methods of doing this.

UPnP allows many devices to use the same ports.

It is generally a simple On/Off setting.
