How to Remove libdvdcss.pkg ?

Hello,

Today I wanted to rip my university graduation DVD to my Mac (for personal viewing).

I searched on the internet, and found a post by Lifehacker: http://lifehacker.com/5809765/how-to-rip-a-dvd-to-your-computer

In the instructions, it is provided to download a package called libdvdcss.pkg so that HandBrake will be able to recognise the DVD and rip it.

However, rippiding didn't work successfully for the entire DVD, so I decided to remove this package, but can't find on the internet how to remove it.

Anyone knows how remove the libdvdcss.pkg package content? or there is no harm keeping them?

Thank you.

You can keep it if you want to, but you can also remove it and get more free space.

To remove the PKG file, simply drag it to the Trash and empty it. It is the installer, so you do not have to do anything else. However, you can find where the installer put the installed files > http://geekyninja.com/archives/how-to-uninstall-mac-os-x-pkg-packages/

Hello Mende1,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes I know that I can remove the package by dragging it to the Trash, but I want to remove the installed files.

I saw that link before posting here, but it isn't clear (to me) how to remove it using the Terminal, and I can't find the libdvdcss.pkg in /Library/Receipts

Does this mean that the .pkg ins't actually installed?

Also, here I find 3 packages that I never (or unaware) that I installed which are: BS, huawei_universal_425_05 , mobile_manager_application and an empty db folder.. Can I remove those or OS X needs them or any of them?

I just want to remove the applications, plug-ins, extensions, packages, etc.. that I don't need anymore, to keep my system clean.

Thank you.

I have a similar issue and wonder if you would offer advice. I am running 10.6.8 on an imac. I downloaded handbrake and libdvdcss.pkg. When I loaded my dvd it was erased. I uninstalled handbrake (but I was unable to drag it to trash; I was succesful using appcleaner), but am unable to find libdvdcss.pkg. I looked in "library" but did not find reciepts. I do not at all understand the steps by geekyninja above, or typing in the commands by opening terminal as you suggest. Is there any easier way to do so? Thanks

You can't erase a DVD. It's read only. I think you are confused.

There's nothing wrong with either HandBreak or libdvdcss. Hand break is not a DVD Ripper, but cn do that sometimes. But if you read this, https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/SupportFAQ it tells you that some DVDs are made in a way with fake titles to fool rippers.

So just because a DVD might not rip correctly doesn't mean you need to uninstall that stuff.

I use MTR, and more recently MacX DVD Ripper Pro for ripping. HandNBreak is made for converting video, and not really ripping copy protected disks.
