Q: Unexplained behaviour or the trackpad.

Hi!

The problem occurred after I've updated to Mavericks. But i see that this is not the source of the issue.

The nature of the problem is that the cursor does move, highlight, open and close apps, jumps about the screen. It is really hard to work when you can't catch the cursor. The fantastic fact is: i can't idetify clearly the times when it happens, because it is random and there is no clrear pattern.

The trackpad and all of the computer is cleaned on regular bases (every week) and i use apple-friendly cleaning supplies that could be found at apple stores.

I have reset the Controller Managment, but it seems not to do anything at all.

So i am lost and confused, and have no idea what to do.

So, right at the begining of the new year is when my problem started.  I first noticed it while in my Windows VM running under Parallels.  Now, two odd things started at the same time, first I noticed the trackpad odd behavior and input.  Second, I noticed my Microsoft Outlook client, running in my Windows VM, stopped automatically downloading and syncing mail.

I just find that generally speaking when things occur together, they are usually related.

Then, my track pad behaviors went away.  And then, when I noticed my Outlook client was not syncing mail automatically.  When I change my profile, my odd trackpad behavior went away.  Hmmmmmmm

I have been having this erratic trackpad issue for at least a year and have tried everything that people suggest to no avail.  Until this morning, I someone suggested to clean the trackpad using one of those alcohol swabs used for cleaning prescription glasses.  It stated to clean the trackpad concentrating on the edges.  I simply used the swab (very little alcohol or whatever they use on those) with my fingernail into the edge of the trackpad.  Not much dirt but the swab did show a few little lines of crud.  So far so good, 10 hours later with no relapse.  I again love my Macbook Pro, no more frustration.

    Hope this helps.

I was having some crazy trackpad behavior similar to yours about a year ago, but eventually it stopped on it's own.  I was also having other issues so I restored my hard drive and didn't think of it again.  Then a few weeks ago my touchpad was working except I couldn't push it down anymore to click (like it was stuck).  I took it to an apple store and it turned out my battery had swollen and needed to be replaced.  They did it in the store - it took about 15 minutes and I just had to pay for a new battery.  I'm guessing the erratic behaviour were early signs of the battery starting to swell.

Probably a good idea to have a computer tech open and check the battery (even if it's not an apple store) just to make sure this ISN'T the issue.  If your battery leaks into computer then there's nothing you can do to save it.
