Will my iMac mid-2010 accept 2 8GB memory cards? Thanks!!

Hi,

I have a iMac mid-2010.

Currently, I have 4GB of RAM (2 slots of 2GB used) out of the 16GB maximum.

I know I have to buy the memory card that is specifically a 1333 MHZ DDR3 204-pin, but I am not sure whether to buy 4 packs of 4GB or 2 packs of 8GB memory cards.

When I looked up instructions on installing memory, it specifically said that for my Mac Mid 2010 that I could use 2GB or 4GB of RAM of 1333 MHz DDR3 in each slot.

Here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1423#4

However it never mentioned when iMac could accept 2 8GB memory cards in the slots.

Sorry the long explanation, but the question is --

1. Can I buy 2 packs of 8GB memory cards or will I have to buy 4 packs of 4 GB memory cards?

2. Which brand should I buy?

Thank you so much!! 🙂

As for brands it many on these forums recommend OWC (www.macsales.com) and Crucial. As for the correct RAM for your machine, visit both vendors websites and they will help you choose RAM that is correct for your machine. It's that simple, really!
