Q: Can't Install Mavericks

This is my first time posting, can someone help me? I have the Mavericks installer app on my imac and can't install it on the hard drive. I have my antivirus off. Here are 2 screen shots of the install screen and disk utilty screen.

Try restarting in safe mode (restart, hold down the shift key until you see the apple logo), and then see if the installer will run.

What iMac do you have? Do option-apple menu > system information and tell us what it says for model identifier.

I restarted in safe mode and made sure my Norton antivirus was disabled. It still wouldn't let me install to my hard drive.

Remove Norton, don't just disable it, while it's gone take the opportunity to never replace it.

That partition scheme looks weird.  What's taking up the unused space?  Did you have Boot Camp formerly and removed it?  I'm curious about the bubble that's selecting the invisible partition.

Also, on the first screen can't you just click on the "Gary's iMac HD" and install?

Looks like a standard single OSX partition with a GUID partition table, about 60% used, why does it look weird to you?

I have boot camp assistant in utilities folder but never used it. When I click on my drive in that first screen it does what it shows. I know that's weird that the bubble pops up next to the drive. I've forgotten how the drive comes set up from the factory. I even did a verify of the disk beforehand and used disk utility (restore tab) to copy my hard drive onto an external hard drive then I disconnected it from computer before trying to install mavericks.

How did you uninstall it, per the developer instructions, or throw it in the trash?

Download Etrecheck, run it, post the output here.

Through the symantecs folder in application folder where it has an unistall program.

Ah, that should work, and you rebooted after the removal was complete?

Please run Etrecheck and post the info here.

I suggest losing SIMBL and Paragon (Paragon can be put back later)

    Then try again.
