Screen goes blank, not easy to get back,

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

Thank you!!! you just saved me a lot of time and trouble. iPhone had gone black, couldn't turn on or off, tried plugging it into wall socket to charge, nothing happening. Tried your maneuver of holding both buttons simultaneously and it rebooted.
