Q: Why won't my iPhone work with the 2014 Nissan Rogue for Messaging Assistant?

Wanted to ask anyone out there why the Iphone 5 does NOT work with the Messaging Assistant function of the 2014 Nissan Rogue.  Other phones running on Android support the messaging feature in the vehicle, but no Apple phones do. Why??  Supposedly the Iphone 5 supports MAP and should work with the car, but it does not.  Any ideas?  Suggestions?

Contact Nissan and ask them if it is supported.

Nissan supports it.  They said it is Apple.  I was wondering if there was a hack or if I jailbroke my phone, it would then work??  Just wondering.

Discussion of jailbreaking is not permitted per the terms of use of these forums.

If Nissan supports it, they should be able to provide details on how to get it working.

I have a 2014 Rogue and was able to get to get the car to read text messages from an iOS 7 device. In order for it to work, I had to go to Settings -> Bluetooth on my phone and then hit the little (i) on My Rogue. Show Notifications was off in that screen. On I turned it on, the car gave me the option to read both iMessages and text messages.

However, I have not yet been able to get the car to send a text message (despite the option being available via voice recognition). If someone knows how to get that to work, please add it to this post.

I am also having the same problem. Is there a setting on the iPhone that I need to turn on or off?

Ok I figured it out. You have to hAve the preloaded texts turned on....you can add texts that you want it to say but it isn't a true speech to text. You have to load the texts in there then say which one you want to respond with when you reply.

Can you clarify what you mean by needing to have the preloaded texts turned on?  On the car, I went to Apps -> Settings -> Phone & Bluetooth -> Phone Settings -> Custom Text Messages and entered in custom messages in there.  However, when I try to use the Send Text functionality through the Voice Commands, it still tells me that Text Messaging is Unavailable.  Is there something that I'm missing on either the phone or the car side?  Thanks!

ok after testing my theory it doesn't work. After I did some digging I found this on a NICO blog:

"The text message system that can read and reply to texts does NOT work with iPhones running iOS 7, the latest system. After scratching my head for hours about it I called customer service and was told this; not willing to believe it, I sent an email to Nissan and was told the same thing. Surely there'll be a software update for this, but it's a glaring oversight in the mean time."

Looks like we are out of luck for right now.

Will the update to allow hands free txt assist come from apple or Nissan.  I just got rogue TODAY, and had been assured I had this option available. Imagine my surprise.

iOS does not support full bluetooth functionality the way Android does. You need to plug your iphone into the vehicles USB port in order to access text messaging / dash apps

Bluetooth works just fine in my Nissan.  If the accessory's Bluetooth profile is supported, then it should work.  The only significant difference for Bluetooth is for file transfer, not for data connection.

I have a 2014 Jeep that uses Uconnect and am experiencing the same issue.  I have contacted Apple and have a case # on this and need to check back in to see what/when this MAP issue will be fixed.  I read this morning that someone uses Siri to verbally respond to any text msgs received through the vehicle but haven't tried this yet.....just might work though as an interim method.

I connected with an Apple rep today.  She said they have noted that the voice texting doesn't work with the vehicles because the bluetooth standards of Apple and our auto systems are different and not compatible for that feature.  I have UConnect in the jeep, not certain what system the Nissan has.

She also indicated it didn't look like the Apple engineers were looking in to any kind of crossover or patch for this to work down the road.  Which surprised me as more Apple users will be buying cars in the future and expect this to work.  She suggested that anyone experiencing this write on the www.apple.com/feedback page and ask for this to be corrected.

Possibly it will get their attention and get it working.....I mean if the Droids work, surely Apple should be able to figure it out.
