Troubleshooting ipv6

Hi,

IOS is supposed to support ipv6, but I have trouble getting it to work.

My ISP provides IPv4 and IPv6 connection over 6rd. My router (D-link Dir-655) is setup up to hand out ipv6 addrsses to all devices in my home network. Other network devices (NAS, laptop, windows phone) can use ipv6-only addresses without problems, and can reach sites like ipv6.google.com.

On my ipad however, Safari gives a cannot open page, server not responding error for ipv6.google.com

In settings, the only sign of ipv6 is in the details of my wifi access point, which shows both ipv4 and ipv6 dns servers configured by DHCP (I use google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and/or 2001:4860:4860::8888)

What could be wrong in this setup?

Best,

Martijn

Jonathan,

Thanks for your responses.

My iPad (actually 2 iPads) show an ipv4 address, but all my devices run dual stack, i.e. they have both an ipv4 and an ipv6 address.I expect my iPad to do the same. As I recall, iPads that do use ipv6 do not expose their ipv6 address in the settings panel either, apple seems to have tucked ipv6 away.

As for the link, ipv6.google.com is definately correct, it will just fail over an ipv4 only connection. It fails on the iPad, it works on my laptop and windows phone

I tried your ipv6test.google.com suggestion as well. That link deals OK with both ipv4 and ipv6. On the iPad, the site reports that I do not have ipv6. On the laptop, it reports that I seem to be using ipv6 already, as expected.

Thus, my question remains...

Best, Martijn
