MacBook Pro Mid2010 15" crashes with Maverick (GPU Panic)

Question

Hi Community,after upgradeing to MacOS X 10.9 my MacBookPro crashes a few times a day giving me the atached error report. I get the feeling this happens mostly while I&#x27;m using Mail. It&#x27;s been years since this first became a problem but there is now a software fix. MBPMid2010_GPUFixThis small program changes a single setting in the kernel extension files. It works. This laptop has 2 video cards and switches between them to make the least drain on the battery. The capacitor that makes the switch flakes out with time. So this patch just locks the machine into one setting. You cannot use an external monitor and you MUST select automatic graphics switching in the power management preferences. Also after any OS updates the program has to be re-run. Otherwise it works beautifully. The default is to set the gnu to the medium setting which is a good compromise.

Well, not so fast (deleting this discussion). The time window for the Nvidia fix explained in this knowledge base article has expired. Also, my Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" works perfect with all kind of intensive graphic applications EXCEPT for occasional GPU Panic crashes in Mail when using rapid scrolling in messages. The Mac OS version is 10.9.3.
