Jan 2, 2014 3:46 PM in response to CMCSKby jl125,This doesn't solve the problem. I think I was trying to create sharing accounts in the right way, they just don't seem to go through, as it were...
Any additional ideas?
Thanks.

You think? Did you follow the step by step instructions including the associated links within the Knowledge Base article?
I have 2 ideas actually. They depend on your response to the above questions.

Jan 2, 2014 4:23 PM in response to CMCSKby jl125,I sure did. Incidentally, I can't even create a sharing account from my address book. If I try, a window will appear reqesting a password. When I enter a password and click "Ok," nothing happens. The window closes and no sharing account is created.

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.
Idea #2
System Preferences/Accounts/Password/My Account/Unlock Padlock/Guess Account (for sharing only) - set up as you want.
Go back to System Preferences/Sharing - you should be able to do what you want. Also, the guest should automatically show up in the Shared folders & Users columns.
