I am intrigued by your comment that iOS devices are not meant to be paired over bluetooth with Macs. Do you have an Apple reference for this statement?
What I want to do (and used to work) is to access internet via my Mac's WiFi and then share this service via Bluetooth to my wife's Mac and to our iOS devices. Use cases - when you are paying for one WiFi connection in a hotel, coffee shop, or as I am now, up in a plane and want to share with my family.
Please no lectures about the ethics of this choice.
