Q: Hi so my Macbook (Late 2008 version) wont turn on, I was using it and the screen suddenly went dark. I've tried all the methods that are on all the forums like every single one so now I'm stumped, any ideas?

Every method out there I've tried and none of them work, for my course in uni my laptop is essential (plus ive had it for so long its practically my baby). If i shine a torch light on it the images can be seen, and everything else works fine the startup sounds are normal, ive been playing music from it  but its just a nucianse to always have to navigate using a torch light and there is no way i could type an essay like that.

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with it, and/or how much ti would be to get it fixed by Apple in the UK (it is no longer under warranty)

Your backlight is out, it's a hardware problem and you'd be best served to take it in for an estimate. Or you could purchase an external display and use it as a desktop computer. You'll have to decide if repairing a 6 year old computer is worth it.
