EEventManager.APP always asks for permission to receive incoming connections

After upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac and my MacBookAir, my Epson BX525WD (PSC) didn't scan from the computers and it did also not scan to the computers over network by operting the scanner via its buttons. Most of the problems, that have been discussed here also, have been resolved with Epson support.

One issue is remaining: The Event Manager (EEventManager.APP), hat handles incoming communications if you operate the PSC from its keyboard, always asks for permission to receive incoming communication after you log into the computers. This is not only annoying but if you are not the admin, you also have to type in the admin's password in order to grant this permission. As an admin, I already changed the firewall setting to alllow this to EEventManager.APP, but this does not help.

Any suggestions?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), also MacBookAir w/ 10.9.1

According to Epson, EEventManager does not work, and cannot be made to work under Mavericks (see below).😮 You can remove the file without it messing up anything else - by default this is found in >Applications>Epson Software. Rather than trash the file completely I put it in a folder within documents, just in case, so you may want to do the same.

This is the Epson support reply,

In response to your query, when using the Push Scan feature on your Epson product, Epson Event Manager fails to respond and scanning doesn't initialise. This is due to a change in OS X Mavericks (10.9) which means that it is no longer possible to use this function. There is no specific solution for this issue and unfortunately support for this functionality under OS X Mavericks (10.9) does not exist.

The main Epson Scan software does allow control of the scanning from the computer.🙂 Once you have the image you can print or email it so the buttons on the front of the scanner were never much use for anything anyway - even if they had ever worked.

Thanks for comment! As it seems Epson personel is not quite well informed throughout their company. I received the following link, which actually contained a working EEventManager, once you allow the incoming communication:

I followed the suggestion of Linc Davis and switched off the firewall since we use the computers inhouse only so far.

Looked at this. It is not suitable for my (brand new) Epson scanner. For my V550 scanner it would seem the only thing that EEventManager does - on some computers - is to make the buttons on the front work which are supposed to activate scan to email, scan to print or scan to file. I never saw the point of these buttons anyway. For a scanner of this type I cannot imagine any situation where you would not want to scan first, see the result and then decide what you wanted to do with the image.

Personally, within a corporate firewall or not, I would never switch off a firewall. Corporate firewalls can be compromised. Whilst Macs are resistent to most black arts - they are not resistent to all. Also in this day and age most use laptops precisely because they can be easily transported.

After downloading OS X Mavericks I too had this same box continually pop up upon booting up my desktop! After searching this thread I decided to try something:

1. Open Applications folder on hard drive.

2. Open Epson folder.

3. Open Event Manager.

4. Click on Network Scan Settings.

5. Uncheck Enable Network Scan.

This worked for me as I don't have any other devices on the network that use the printer. I hope it works for you!
