Rename file/folder - return not working

I just bought my first Macbook Pro.

I have been using Windows my whole life.

I want to change folder name. Every responce I read on the web says to press "return" to change it.

When I press it, nothing happens... What may I be doing wrong? Folder is selected.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Fengson,

when you select the folder and press the Return key, does the highlighting change for the folder name? If so, that shows that the name can be changed — either start typing in the highlighted text, or move the cursor to where you would like to make the change.

An alternative method of renaming a folder would be to select the folder, then press Command-I — that will show an information window. Roughly in the center of that window is a “Name & Extension” textbox with the name of the folder in it — you could rename the folder by editing that textbox.
