I want to install 120Gb SSD in iMac G5 ALS with Tiger/Leopard, can this be done?

I have the SSD already fitted in my iMac but when I try to instal from the Tiger OSX Disk, I just have a grey screen and the spinning disk icon and can hear the SuperDrive/CD turning but doing nothing.

Has anyone had any success in Installing a SSD as a replacement to the standard spinning HD?
