Backing up an iPhone 5s using iTunes

I had previously backed up another person's iPhone's data onto my macbook, but I don't want it to be there anymore since I got my own iPhone. If I manually back up my own iPhone will it overwrite any previously stored data?

The first time, I accidently restored the old data into my new phone and it was such a hassle to re input everything. I want my macbook to contain only data that is from my current iPhone - so that, if necessary, I restore MY data.

Thank you

Hello itsbrandonn,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Deleting a backup in iTunes

If you want to delete a backup created by iTunes, follow these steps:

  1. Open iTunes Preferences:
    • Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences
    • Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences
  2. Click Devices (the iOS device doesn't need to be connected).
  3. iTunes will show the phone number, IMEI, and serial number of the backed up iPhone when you position your mouse pointer over a backup (iTunes shows only the serial number for iPad and iPod touch). You can use this to find the backup you want to delete.
  4. Select the backup you want to remove and click Delete Backup.
  5. Confirm you wish to remove the selected backup by clicking Delete Backup.
  6. Click OK to close the iTunes Preferences Window.

Best of luck,

Mario
