Q: how do i change my default search engine back to google in Safari 7? It changed to yahoo without consent.

I was using Safari, when the default search engine suddenly changed to Yahoo without my consent. There doesn't seem to be an easy method to change it back to Google in OS 10.9.1. Help, please.  Thanks.

    Go to Safari/preferences

    Click on the General tab

Select Google from the list near the top of the window

The same thing has happened to me with Bing suddenly appearing as the search engine that comes up.  The setting in Preferences is set to Google.

    Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

I'm having the same issues, just a few days ago, suddenly my default google search engine changed to Yahoo.  But my preference settings is set to Google.  And its still going to Yahoo.  I even quit and remove the preference file.  Still the same.  Seems like its just stuck to Yahoo for some reason, and I didn't change it.

Anyone has any other ideas?  This has become quite annoying and frustrating.

    Thanks

Go to Safari then Preference then tap magnifying glass icon. Select "Google" as default search engine.

I had the same problem, but it turned out I had accidentally downloaded an extension.

Go into Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Uninstall all extensions that were not installed by you.
