Is Unicode Bangla Fonts and Unicode Bangla Keyboards are compatible with Mac OS 10.4.11?

Hi,

Please let me know if those are compatible with my MB.

I also need to know the process or method of removing or uninstalling the bangla fonts and keyboards from the system. Please guide me.

I deleted few files in removing the fonts and keyboard layout, but the Unijoy and Rapali layouts remain in the input source. Is that gonna clash if i reinstall the fonts and keyboard layout again.

After removing the fonts and keyboard layout, I opened the preference pane, then i checked the box from the input menu, then i opened the MS Word to see if the fonts and layouts are removed properly or not, i thought i won't be able to type, but i was wondering that what files i removed.

Actually I was facing trouble in typing the Conjunct bangla words since the installations, conjunct words not working as per the typing guide says. That's why i tried to remove it and install again. Now i am confused.

I look forward to your help.

Following are the system information that i am using now:

Model Name: MacBook

Model Identifier: MacBook2,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB

Memory: 1 GB

Bus Speed: 667 MHz

Boot ROM Version: MB21.00A5.B07

SMC Version: 1.13f3

Look forward to your reply.

Hi Omar,

I'm not familiar with hose but try thee steps...

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

3. Click the First Aid tab.

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

Then open Fon't Book & Validate all Fonts & check for duplicates.

MS Word for Mac has never supported Bangla and it is a waste of time to try and make it work, even for the very latest versions. Instead try TextEdit, Pages, or OpenOffice. However your OS is so old that I cannot test anything to see what does work, and you may have a hard time finding someone who can.

Hi Tom,

Yes, indeed i am having trouble finding someone who can.

However, i have seen few people working with Bijoy Keyboard Layout, and they using OS 10.5. What do you think, Bijoy Keyboard gonna work with 10.4?

They asking money to install Bijoy, that is why i tried to use the free one like Unicode AKA Unijoy.

I don't have iWorks package. And i never tried text edit for any day to day office works and presentation that requires Bengali format. I will try using it, but not sure.

Above all, if you can suggest anything else, amy help me a lot.

Thanks so much.

Have a good day.

Hi BDAqua,

Yes, Tom's ones helped me to understand the main problem. And if that is the case then it is really painful to use such things.

So many friends of mine told me about the troubles using MAC and OS. But i was always in favor of using MAC.

Now, i understand why they don't use MAC. And also feeling bit ashamed of advocating in favor of MAC.

It is true that people should use what is friendly to them, regardless of what is the best or what is potentially efficient at least. That is where the Windows moving ahead, leaving Apple behind.

More painful fact is that i am using my MB for almost 7 years, and Office Mac didn't do anything to solve that trouble. May be they have some sort of clash of interests, or whatsoever. And problems piling up at the user end. Actually, never expected such "no attempts" or "long-time-no-results" from Apple.

Please don't think that i am complaining about Apple to you. Just sharing what i realized, and i got to realize the gains.

Thanks a lot. Have a good day.

Dear Tom,

I didn't try to blame Apple. What i tried to say is that if someone is offering any product to other parties then that should be compatible as like as the mother product.

MS Office for windows is the mother of Office:Mac, if the mother was doing wrong then what Apple was doing being parent company for Apple product? That is what i tried to say.

Mother Microsoft can try to produce crippled ones, but that entirely or at least should not be for Father Apple, and ensuring that, is entirely Apple's sole responsibility.

Again, i am saying that it is not a blame game from my end. I am Just trying to pinpoint who is at fault, and who is facing it.

Hope i made myself clear.

Thanks a lot for helping me. Have a good day.

Above links are for iWorks package, right? And that font and keyboard layout gonna work with OpenOffice or Textedit, right?

The links have nothing specifically to do with iWorks or any other app. Fonts and keyboards are always for the whole system. MS Office for Mac is normally the only modern app in the Universe which is unable to use these things correctly.

Unfortunately OS 10.4 is 9 years old, used by less than 2% of Macs worldwide. I no longer have it anywhere and thus can't test these add-ons myself. I would be interested to hear about your experience if you try them.

All Macs starting with OS 10.7 in 2011 include Bangla fonts and keyboards built in, so since that time Mac users have not had to download these from elsewhere.

Hi Tom,

One of my former friend, i actually encouraged him to buy Mac in 2010. He is using 10.5 or later.

And at the same time he is using Bijoy and MS Office. It was me who actually took him to another guy who helped my friend to install bijoy and MS Offcie. My friend is in printing business.

He never complained to me about the trouble, in fact he gave me a printed keyboard viewer to type with bijoy keyboard layout.

I never used Bengali typing, but these days i need it sometimes for day to day work. That is why i tried to use Unijoy layout.

Anyway.

Hello Tom,

Can you please let me know the version of OpenOffice that i should download?

I Have downloaded 4.0.1. And i tried to verify the downloaded copies using Terminal, but i couldn't understand the result. And also having trouble with fonts.

Can you please let me know step by step procedures, if possible, to install the Ekushey Fonts and Keyboard Layouts and OpenOffice. I Just want to verify if i have done the faulty synchronized steps in downloading all those. Just want to give it a try. If possible, please let me know.

Thanks, and have a good day.
