All Apple applications (Itunes, safari, Iphoto etc) causing system freeze upon opening

Something is causing all apple applications to crash upon opening (itunes, safari, i-photo etc). The spinning ball begins, and I am unable to access finder or force quit. Have created new user, no problems in there. Likely to be a corrupt .plist file? How can I identify which file to delete?
