Mail.app error: Could not save to path (but wrong path)

I try to save an inbox message in Mail.app to the Desktop.

Mail.app displays "Error: Could not save to path /Users/pool/Desktop/suit/Pool.txt".

Note that the path it complains about is not the path that I am saving to. I am saving to /Users/pool/Desktop/Pool.txt. Mail.app is inserting an extra "/suit" into the path. Then, of course, it can't save to that path, because that path doesn't exist. It did exist earlier.

This behavior has survived a restart of the machine.

This error never occurred for me in Mountain Lion, but it is occurring now in Mavericks.

The same thing is happening to me. I use Mail 7.1 with Mac 10.9.1

My mail.app creates a path to another desktop folder than the one I am aiming for, but within that folder the path contains a sub-folder which is not actually there but within another desktop folder.

I have full permissions for all folders, but the save-path-window also sometimes tells me that I have only read-permission.

Using MacBook Air 10.9.2

I've had the same issue for months,

User uploaded file

then same problem with Text edit

User uploaded file

ONLY path I could save was the suggested default path being User > username > documents. Looking back, the problem started when I saved a file from Apple mail to Triplej/Bisley etc and later realised it was the wrong folder and manually moved in Mac HD Then program started the error messages based on the prior save path.

Today, I've resolved the save path error messages with both programs but not sure why it worked. Bascially, you Save As (Shift Command S) and save box appears, then in the path [where you type the name of the file] look to the right hand side where there is an up or down arrow which expands or collapses the path availablity.

My preferred save path is always expanded to show all hard drives so I collapsed it and cancelled, repeated but this time it came up as collapsed box with the documents folder as preferred path, clicked around a bit to find my folder under the Macintosh HD and it saved correctly. Did this with Text edit and got it to work too.

I've had this issue registered with Apple for months and no-one could resolve it. More case numbers here than I care to reveal. Hope this fix works for you too.

The problem started for me the same exact way as you. I did Save As... from Mail and then used Finder to move the file to another folder and then deleted the original folder that I saved the file in. The problem started the next time I used Save As...

The process didn't work for me though. The first time I saved all my 2011 emails and it was 18.2 MB and worked fine. After that, the maximum amount was much smaller, like 5MB, and eventually, the problem came back again and I had to restart Mail. This bug is probably not easy to reproduce...
