i need to restore my mac desktop but i don't have disk and no backups what do i do????

i need to restore my mac desktop but i dont have the disk and no backup . apparently the time machine was off so no backups . its a 24 in desktop i think its 2012 or 2011 when we purchased it

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

It's very important to know which Mac OS it came with as the procedure will vary.


In all cases, you will need to back up your files as you will need to wipe your disk in the process and will lose everything on it.


So, if it came with a disk originally, you will need a disk - call Apple, give them your serial number and they'll send you a replacement.


If it didn't come with a disk, you an use recovery or internet recovery (depends upon your exact model) to wipe and reinstall.


And, why do you need to 'restore'?
