my dictation does not work but microphone singnals ok and shows receeption of signal at proper intensity but no typing..it worked fine till last week but have not changed anything..john craig

The first thing I would suggest is to restart your Mac ... this simple solution often refreshes the settings and applications.
If the issue persists, then try turning the dictation feature off and then on again. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences > Dictation and change some of the settings in the article below:
