FCPX Won't Open Library... Project Deleted?

Hello,

I recently updated to FCPX 10.1. I was editing a project and had the connected event, along with other events, in the same library. I was almost done with my editing and Final Cut force closed. Okay, no big deal... or so I though. I opened it up and my project wasn't there. I then tried to open the library that it is in and Final Cut force closed again. It does that everytime I attempt to open this particular library. Please help! I don't want to lose all my work. 😟

I also have the error report if anyone needs it.

Thanks for your help and time guys. Problem was solved by going in Finder and moving the contents of the Library I couldn't open to a different Library. Very odd but my project was saved!

This advice was spot on and fixed my problem. FCPX was fine, but apparently my library was damaged. Creating a new library and then copying the old library into the new one solved the problem - exactly as specified in the article. Thanks!!

Try going to Final Cut Pro Backups and openng one of the backups.

Hello,

Make sure FCPX is closed before doing this. In Finder, find the Library that is problematic. Right click on it and click "Show Package Contents". Highlight everything and move it into a new Library. Now try opening that Library in FCPX. Hope this helps!

Hello,

First, find the Library that is having problems. Right click and select "Show Package Contents."

Next, open another Finder window and find the new Library that you want to move the stuff into. Right click and select "Show Package Contents." Drag the contents from the first Library to the new Library.

When you open FCPX, your stuff should be in the new Library!

Hi,

I'm having a very similar issue. When you say you moved the "Contents" of the Library you were having an issue with, do you mean that you moved all the associated media with that library, or did you just move the actual FCPX Lirbary file itself?

Thank you. I was able to open the package contents and duplicate them but only to another folder, not to another FCPX Libray file. Maybe I'mmissing something the new Libray system still confuses me.

I copied package contents to a new folder, then opened FCPX to create a new library, then closed FCPX and tried to copy the folder contents into the library. Obviously that was wrong 🙂

What am I missing?

Thank you so much for the detailed response and screengrabs. I must be doing something wrong or have another issue. When I go to copy or drag the folders onto the new Library it doesn't allow me to paste them into the new Library for some reason.

Hey,

No problem, trying to help as much as I can! Make sure that you have two Finder windows open, and don't just drag to the Library... you have to right click the Library and then click Show Package Contents and drag into there.

first of all, I also want to thank you for all the detailed explenations. I have the same issue, however I already did what you suggested, copied everything, when I open up my library in FCP it still doesn't show though

Hi,

I'm not fully operational yet but heysavy's advice has been very helpful. So far I've been able to recreate the library, open it with FCPX and find most of my projects. For some odd reason a large amount of media has been disconnected which seems to be my only issue. I'm still working that out as it's a huge amount to locate and reconnect, but the Library is finally being recognized and opened.

PapaFee, from what I can see in your attached image you didn't recreate another Library file in FCPX. Your work is simply in a folder not a Library which FCPX will recognize.

1. Open FCPX and create a new Library on that drive.
2. Close FCPX and go back to finder. Copy that folder "Narges Reel US" and all of it's contents into the new Library file.

3. Re-open FCPX and you should see your projects and events.

A library icon looks like this in finder:

If this works can you let me know if any of your media has disconnected?

Trying to understand "force close". Do you have to force close it – or does it crash? If it crashes, does it get beyond the splash screen. Please be as specific as possible. Thanks.
