Q: Macbook Pro with Retina Display HDMI not working!

I have a brand-new 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display. I am trying to plug it into my 21.5" HP 2211x Monitor.

The monitor does not have an HDMI input. I have an HDMI-to-DVI adapter. My Windows PC has an HDMI output, and the adapter works perfectly fine when I plug it in to it. When I plug it into the HDMI output on my Mac, the monitor is on (not in sleep mode), so it obviously knows that a device is plugged into it. My Mac sees the monitor, but it is only a black screen.

I don't know what is wrong, so any help would be appreciated.

Are there any risks to resetting the SMC or PRAM?

Aside from potentially needing to correct a few minor settings (screen resolution, system volume), not at all!

Allen,

Thank you for all of your help! Unfortunately, HP says on their website:

"HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment."

At least the HDMI-DVI adapter wasn't too expensive...
