I had this issue as well with iPad 3, even checked and made sure I was using the 10W charger. But then out of frustration I bought a new usb cable from amazon (really cheap but made sure it mentioned iPad) and it worked perfectly, the ipad charged quickly. So it must have been an issue with the cable, perhaps it was my cable from the iPhone that doesn't work with the iPad...
So I just thought I should mention that people should check both the charger block as well as the usb cable itself! Good luck!
What are you guys talking about? It's okay if you bought an iPad and don't know how to use it, but don't curse apple for that. Money might buy an iPad, certainly doesn't impart you with knowledge.
doesn't this fall under the grounds of them intentionally breaking the product so we have to spend money? That reeks of class action suit.
I tried your advise (reseting by holding down the home and sleep keys) on my iPad 4, and it did not fix the issue. The pad is 3 months old, using as 12 watt supply that came with it from apple, plugged directly into AC. Have switched to power from an iMac, same issue. Back to AC, same issue. Any more advise?
Since your iPad is only 3 months old, make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out.
Yea, that is a great idea, not everyone lives in the city or near a city or even within 100 miles of an apple store. do you have another idea?
this may be wide, but, I did blow out the lightning port, same issue, flipped the male end over, reinserted, and now it charges. hmmmm
the entire charger and cable work on my iPhone 5, and now, flipped over it seems to be working. we will see if this keeps up.

This worked for me, and filping the mail end over, then inserting. which I expect means one side of the plug is dirty.

Ok you have tried everything but still nothing, right?
I have a solution. ℹ
I noticed the corrosion on the "gold" alloy to tip your charger.
I tried cleaning got off with toothpicks and pencil erasers.
Then I gave up
I knew that people used to clean engine blocks with Coke because it was so acidic. I also knew you can make a penny look perfectly new that way too.
So I dipped the tip of the charger into a shot glass of Coke and made sure the rubber wasn't submerged. 24 hours later it was perfectly clean and I saved myself 20 bucks
Have this problem after EVERY IOS update. Apple *****! Would trash my air if it wasn't required for my job - will never buy Apple again (have this issue on all Apple devices) money goes much farther and reliability is better on android/pc platforms. Will encourage my employer to switch to the Surface as reliability is an absolute must!
Apple, decide if you want to be in the device (tablet, laptop, desktop) or charger business then stick with that - sorry I switched, what a waste of money.
MY son's cheap android phone NEVER has these issues and does everything my iPhone/iPad does.
✅ Try what I did ^
So Ipad Air and Mini 2 is no longer possible to charge through the imac usb port with 2.1 amps?
Ive done so for years, why no longer?
It says not charging, but still charging anyway, tried hard reset...
Assuming your cable and/or charger is not broken, it's fairly straightforward to clean the charging port on the iPad and the charging tip of the cable. You can clean just the tip (pins) of the charging cable in rubbing alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol is commonly used to clean circuit contacts. Just find a way to get some in to the charging port but do not pour it in!! Put a little bit on a toothbrush or something. The tip of the cable is easy enough to clean even with a cotton swab.
And as had been said before, the iPad battery is larger and takes more juice to charge than what a standard USB port or standard iPhone charger can provide; that's why they come with different chargers than iPhones which have smaller batteries.
Try using the original charger
