Q: iMac 27 inch Mid 2010 to HDTV. I connected a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable from the iMac to the Sony HDTV. I get mirrored images but no sound. I can't see HDTV on the output sound preferences in system preferences on the iMac. How can I fix?
I connected a mini display port to hdmi cable from my iMac to my Sony Bravia HDTV. The image and video are fine. But I can't hear sound in my TV. Other posts mention to go to sound in System Preferences on the iMac and select the HDTV in the output tab. I did just that, I went to the output tab in sound preferences and all I see is the Internal Speakers and not my HDTV. Now, in the "About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters" apple support community it says that iMacs (late 2009 and later) models support AUDIO and video from the MDP. But this is not the case. I have a mid 2010 iMac. So, is there a problem with my iMac that I need to fix or do I need to but a separate audio cable to make this work? I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.
iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
