deleting from photo stream?

I have read many of the threads like this. Some of them just say: yes, you can do it, but do not give instructions. Others say you can only do it by reseting or deleting a photo stream.

The photos were taken on my iPhone. I have deleted them from there, but my photo stream on my iMac's iPhoto still shows them. I have tried selecting them in photo stream on iPhoto and using the delete key. All I get is a beep. They won't drag to the trash can.

I am using iPhoto '11 (9.2.1). Some instructions say select iCloud from the source list, but iCloud is not in the list.

What am I missing? How do I delete the photos from everywhere in the system of my Mac's, iPhone and iCloud?

Deleting from the Photo Stream is only supported for iPhoto '11 (9.2.2) or later.

Deleting photos from My Photo Stream with iPhoto or Aperture

On a Mac using iPhoto 9.2.2 or later or Aperture 3.2.3 or later:

Select a photo or group of photos from the My Photo Stream view in iPhoto or Aperture.

Press the Delete key.

Click Delete.

Can you upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto?

Otherwise, import all photos from the Photo Stream you want to keep on your Mac, then disable the Photo Stream in the iCloud Preferences, and after deleting all photos from the Photo STteam on your other devices and waiting a while for the changes to sync, enable the Photo Stream again in the System Preferences on your Mac.

Are you sure about version 9.2.1? The FAQ (iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ) states you need 9.2.2 at least to be able to use Photo Stream with iPhoto.

Thanks. I saw the bulleted instructions, but I did not notice I had to be using 9.2.2 at that point. There is an item under recent named Photo Stream. I am guessing now that its presence is due to the fact that iPhoto comes up and tries to harvest photos from my iPhone (iOS 7.0.4). The mac I am using is an iMac 27", but it is running OS 10.7.5.

So I do have a Photo Stream from my iPhone 5 in my iPhoto on my iMac. It will add photos but not let me remove them in iPhoto. Since I had the Photo Stream the way I wanted it on my iPhone, I did a reset of the photo stream on the iMac. This resulted in the dropping of the photos I wanted deleted.
