Q: air play with late 2009 iMac ?

I just purchased a new appletv, but before hand i had called apple to see if it would work using my late 2009 Imac. the answer was yes. it doesn't work am i doing doing something wrong or was i just given the wrong information.

it works with airplay audio
it works with shared itune lib
it does not work with airplay mirror
