external hd does not show up in devices

I have a late 2013 macbook pro and a 500GB WD external harddrive, back from when I was still on Windows. Therefore, it's a NTFS-formatted drive. I followed this guide to enable my macbook to read and write to it and later followed this guide to enable my macbook to read and write from all NTFS disks. However, now it no longer appears under 'devices' in Finder. However, it does appear when I open /Volumes and Disk Utility can also see it. Does anyone know why the drive does not appear under devices in Finder and how I could make it show up there?

Bonus question: I have been seeing 'Remote Disc' (see screenshot) ever since. Could that be related? What is it? It seems to be empty.

Thanks in advance!
