How do I import .docx files into Pages?

I want to start using Pages instead of Microsoft Word but all of my previous documents I created are in .docx format. I want to know if I can import these documents into Pages. How can I import the files? I know that I can save/export Pages files in .docx format.

If Pages v5 and TextEdit can't handle the document, I expect Preview may not either. Try it.

Plan B.

In the terminal app, type the following to convert the .docx to .rtf and .odt, then try opening each one in TextEdit (-e).

textutil -convert rtf yourdoc.docx
textutil -convert odt yourdoc.docx
open -e yourdoc.rtf
open -e yourdoc.odt

If this works, then use TextEdit to save the content as a different file.docx and open in Pages v5.
