Welcome to the Apple Community Coach Carey.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

  1. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
  2. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
  3. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
  4. Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
  5. Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

I started having a similar problem late last year. I have just arrived home from LA and I'm still having issues.

My setup for reference:

Comcast 50 down 10 up

AirPort Extreme 5th gen 802.11n version 7.6.4

Connection as seen from AirPort utility data rate 58Mb/s RSSI -70 dBm in 802.11a/n

Apple TV 3rd gen version 6.0.2

Connected to a 47" 1080p Vizio Smart TV over HDMI.

Another Apple TV I have on 6.0.1 is working fine.

I have no issues on any other wireless client connecting to the AirPort Extreme and previously had no issues with my Apple TV.

What I have tried so far:

Reconnecting to the network

A reset of the AppleTV

A restore of the AppleTV

Each time I try any of the above steps the AppleTV will work for a few hours or maybe a day before it will fail to work again and I will need to take any of the above steps to reconnect. I can't even do the network test after it fails as it says it's unable to connect to the server.

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? I'm about ready to give up on the AppleTV and buy a chrome cast or Roku as I use streaming almost exclusively for content consumption instead of our horrible Dish network TV which I only use for sports I can't stream on the AppleTV.

I recently was given the most up to date modem and wireless router combo by my cable company. The transitions to the new network on all Apple devices went smoothly except for Apple TV. I have done the procedures you have listed without success. My Apple TV was working flawlessly before I switched routers. Is there a setting I need to adjust?

When I try to log into either iTunes or iCloud or home sharing, I get the message, "Unable to sign in. Apple TV is unable to connect to the server. please try again later." Netflix and similar apps are unable to connect, as well.

As per this thread, have you simply tried logging out of your iTunes account on your Apple TV and then logging back in to it? If that doesn't work, make sure you can log in to your iTunes account on a computer, and if need be update your password (always a good idea if you haven't changed it in a while). Then go back and try logging out and in again on your Apple TV. That server error generally means that it's not getting in to the iTunes/Apple server via your iTunes account credentials, so first confirming that your credentials are correct/what you think they are is important. Hope this helps.

Electronically yours,

Erik
