How can i unlock and ipod 5 when i found it !! Can you help on this ?

Have you bothered to read this thread or did you just go by the subject heading?

Quite frankly, it's incredibly rude for anyone, including you, to add to this post just to ask the same question.

Do what has already been suggested; hand it in to the security office where you found it or a police station if you found it in the street.

Thank you Gail from Maine! My son lost his new iPod touch 5 at Sunday River last weekend in the arcade area where Foggy Goggle is and we know someone must have picked it up because he know he fell out of his pocket. It was locked immediately, and a message stating it was lost with a contact number to call and so far nothing but I keep looking at ebay. No one has turned it in yet sadly. I'm happy Apple has done this but wish we knew why ours isn't being returned yet :(. It's situations like this they are trying to avoid but do you know if there is a forum for matching those that lost with those that found? I will pay more than a brick on eBay to just get it back!

Hi Rightyb,

Sorry, unless the person who picked it up contacts you or turns it in, you will just have to use Find My iPhone to see if you can locate it.

Have you checked with the Mall Security people? How about the Police near the mall? Even if you locked it and put a message on it, if it powered off because it used up all of the battery, no one is going to see that message. It could be sitting in a lost and found somewhere.....

Cheers and best of luck!

You can restore the device using Recovery Mode.

That will delete all information, and no, you won't be able to use the device, you need the owners Apple ID and password in order to set it up, better turn it in to the police, keeping it is not useful for you as you can't use the device.

Ok I have found an iPad 1st or 2nd gen I'm not sure as it has the old connector. Ive informed staff In the shop I found it outside that I was taking it to he main police station. I have also done that and they have taken my details but told me to hang on to it and they will contact me if someone claims it. I fully expect someone to claim it and I sincerely hope they do. I didn't trust the youngsters in the shop to be honest but hopefully they will have he sense to point them in the direction of the police station. Ok so after 28 days if unclaimed I am simply allowed to keep it. If I inform Apple can they locate the owner? There was no simple way of identifying an "if found" number which by the way is simply a no brainier for apple here!!!!

The OP post is not stupid however he should have handed it in to the police first letting the shop owner know he is doing that. So I repeat the question of after the 28 days it is stil unclaimed does it render it completely useless? It isn't even sim operated so there's no find my iPad function either I'm guessing?
