Depends on what input plug you'll be using on your TV. VGA, DVI, Composite or HDMI. You'll need a Mini-DVI (Not Mini DisplayPort) adapter and a cable from that to your TV. Here's the various types of Mini-DVI adapters on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13
(
Composite is the red, white and yellow RCA plugs on your TV or red, white and S-Video plugs.)

You'll also need audio cables to the TV if you use VGA, DVI, or Composite using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.

If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs.

The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual though to see if it might have audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.

The Early and Mid 2009s with the A1181 case have the Mini-DVI ports. It's the Late 2009 White unibody that has the MiniDisplay Port.

Apple MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.13 13" (White-09) Specs

Identifiers: Mid-2009 - MC240LL/A - MacBook5,2 - A1181 - 2330

User uploaded fileQuietly unveiled without a press release -- just like the model it replaced -- the Apple MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.13 13-Inch (White - Mid-2009) features a 45 nm "Penryn" 2.13 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor (P7450), with two independent processor "cores" on a single silicon chip, a 3 MB shared "on chip" level 2 cache, a 1066 MHz frontside bus, 2 GB of 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-6400) installed in pairs (two 1 GB modules), a 160 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive, an 8X DL "SuperDrive", a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M "graphics processor with 256 MB of SDRAM shared with main memory", and a 13.3" widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display (1280x800 native resolution).

The MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.13 13" (White - Mid-2009) shares the same white polycarbonate case as the MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 13" (White - Early 2009) that it replaced and connectivity is the same as well with AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Gigabit Ethernet, a FireWire "400" port, two USB 2.0 ports, optical digital audio in/out, and video out capabilities (mini-DVI) that supports an external display. The hard drive is larger and the memory is faster. Interestingly, Apple also officially claims that this model provides 5 hours of battery life (up from 4.5 hours on the model replaced).

OK, this was obviously shaun_uk's post originally and I previously didn't want to "jack" it, but since you chose to research and quote said research, I feel the need to do just that - especially since I know what I have and what I don't have, and you're just going by someone else's words and pictures. Your info - as even you personally mentioned before your referenced quote - refers to the WHITE MacBook. I own the ALUMINUM MacBook Pro. Even though they are both Mid-2009 models, they are two completely different machines. Here is the reference point, since you obviously need proof:

(http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .26-aluminum-13-mid-2009-sd-firewire-800-unibody-specs.html)

"Connectivity includes AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a Firewire "800" port, two USB 2.0 ports, the same "combined optical digital output/headphone out (user-selectable analog audio line in)" port used by the iPhone, a "Mini DisplayPort" that supports an external display at 2560x1600, and an SD card slot."

Granted, neither one of us knows whether shaun's laptop is white or aluminum (and for that matter whether it's a MB or a MBP), hopefully he now has enough info to get the supplies he needs.
