AU Lab preventing Startup

Help! I have been having serious startup issues since I updated to Maverick and the recent update of it. When I managed to get it to startup a few days ago, I installed AU Lab, which has now complicated matters further. At startup, AU Lab goes into an interminable loop looking for audio plugins, which then hangs up the Mac, preventing full startup. I had unfortunately allowed the app to start on login. Now I cannot prevent it from launching at startup. Is there a way of either deleting the program or disallowing it from launching at startup as I need my Mac back. I had intended booking it in for the Maverick issue until this problem started.

Hey there Emmanuel235,

Thank you for your question! It sounds like you are needing to prevent an item from starting up that is interfering with the computer loading your desktop. I would start by temporarily disabling Log in items and then removing the items from the list.

OS X Mavericks: Open items automatically when you log in

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14173

Temporarily prevent items from opening automatically when you log in

  • If you see the login window, press the Shift key while you click the Log In button, then release the Shift key when you see the Dock.
  • If you don’t see the login window, restart your Mac, hold down the Shift key when you see the progress bar in the startup window, then release the Shift key after the desktop appears.

Add or remove automatic items

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
  2. Select your user account, then click Login Items.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Click Add ➕ below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
    • Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete ➖ below the list on the right.
