Why is my project sputtering now that I've updated?
Ever since I've updated my Final Cut Pro X to 10.1 my project sputters continuously... any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sputter = choppy playback?
What are your system specs? Where are your libraries? How many events in the libraries?
Russ
Yes, choppy playback
I'm using a MacBook Pro with 8GB Ram
Since the update, I haven't updated all of my existing events or projects, so I currently only have 4 new events all in the "Final Cut Pro Backups" folder in the "Movies" folder.
1) For best performance I would keep the libraries on a fast drive other than your systems drive.
2) Depending on your projects' length and complexity, 8 GB may be cutting it close. Check memory in Activity Monitor to see whether it's reporting swaps.
3) Do you have at least 15% free space on your boot drive?
4) Set Playback to Better Performance
Russ
I'm experiencing the same type of 'sputtering' after updating, but in a different way. If I'm dragging the playhead it sputters where before it was nice and smooth.
Russ, where's the 'Set Playback to Better' checkbox? That appears to be missing now in Preferences.
Matt, You're absolutely right.
That Playback choice is now in the Viewer Settings Dropdown menu.
Russ
Ah, got it! Mine's already set to 'Better Performance'. I'm hoping my sputtering issues when hovering over footage goes away after natively importing fresh projects... unless you might have other suggestions.
Russ... also you've been super helpful in the past. I'm hoping you have more experience with importing now after the update. Check out my latest woes and let me know if you might have any solutions:
