If you're trying to sync them by plugging each device into your laptop, you will not be able to with the latest version of iTunes. Apple has removed this feature as they want you to use iCloud. If you'd prefer not to use iCloud, fill out the form on this page and ask them to bring the feature back.

To be correct, Sync Services (which iTunes uses to sync Contacts & Calendars) was removed in Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Syncing locally works fine in iTunes for Windows.
Well now that we are all correct ... I am having the same problem (s)
My ipad 2 will not sync with icloud calendars.
iCloud on iPad shows:
correct iCloud account
Contacts and Calendars are turned on
1.8 gig avaialable in free icloud starage
iCloud backup turned on
my last iCloud back up was finished just minutes ago
go to ipad calendar app and only show one calendar ... Birthdays, which I have NO IDEA where that cam from.
The is a PLUS in the upper right, it is greyed out and no functional
I see Calendars as a "menu" item at the bottom of the screen, but can only edit my birthday calendar.
I see no way to add icloud calendars to my ipad calendars and everything seems to be set up.
Please help
Do you have iCloud enabled on your Mac?
Settings > iCloud.
Turn off Calendars, wait a few minutes, then turn it back on.
If it doesn't work, do the same on your Mac.

It is generated automatically from birthdays set in your Contacts list.
Thanks for the quick response ...
Did as you said on both mbp and ipad. No change
Also noticed ipad is charging from mbp but will not sync music ... Sync service not started and iPad does not show it connected to the mbp but is charging from it.
iphone 5 working just fine.
Thanks again for your hellp
Sync service not started
You will see this if you are running Mavericks (10.9) and iTunes version less than 11.
Log into icloud.com on your MacBook.
Do you see all the calendars there?
If so, on the iPad, Settings >iCloud, delete the account then add it back.
iTunes = 11.1.3
Yes Calendars show on icloud
deleted ipad icloud account - added back in accepting defaults
Turned off Ipad
no change
Thanks again for your help 🙂
Just to follow up ...
Followed what Chris CA suggested, but this time, used HOME/POWER to reset the iPad.
Confrimed the settings, and it all started to work!! Yea!!
