The event “X” was rejected by “iCloud” because it already exists in Calendar

Repeated Error Message irritating ..evidently referring to 'old canendar entries'...goes into loop....

Hey KILTERAGH20,

Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with the Calendar on your iMac. The following resource may provide a solution:

I have the same issue as KILTGER...

Problem with your solution, matt, is when the message pop-up appears [The server, etc, etc,] which it does as soon as iCal is opened, no other action can be taken, e.g. Preferences cannot be accessed and iCal can not even be quit... Force Quit is the only way to close it.

So, what do, can we do to fix this?

Thank you.

I have just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks on a 2009 vintage MacBookPro, and have the same issue as the two contributors above.

When I import a calender with my schedule in .ics format to iCalender, the cloud works fine with all of my devices.

Then when I import a similar .ics file with another schedule to iCalender, the repeating error messages as reported above appear, with the logjam reported by pberke.

I have tried lots of troubleshooting. I've deleted all of my calenders from my macbook and iCloud and started again and still the problem occurs when the second calender is introduced to the mix.

Other calenders which I have created manually do not seem to cause any problems.

I would be grateful for a solution, or could you please put the synch via iTunes option back as that is the way I used to do it before in Snow Leopard.

Regards,

P

I am having the exact same issue. iCal is stuck in a loop giving me error message and I cannot access the calendars at all because of this. I imported a calendar from my business partner. I definitely used the pulldown menu to save his calendar into a seperate business calendar, but all the events opened up in my personal calendar and these duplications appear to be covering several years.

I got this problem when I tried to merge a previous calendar into an automatically-created "Family" calendar for the new Family Sharing feature. It freaked out. So, I force-quit the app. Then, went to the Library/Calendar folder and copied "Calendar Cache" to a safe place (desktop). I opened system preferences and went to iCloud settings and unchecked Calendars and Reminders. Then, I opened Calendar and the error warnings had stopped. I took this opportunity to export each and every calendar that was saved there. I saved them in a new folder on my desktop. I closed Calendar again, deleted Calendar Cache from the Library/Calendar folder. Then, I turned back on iCloud Calendars and Reminders (in system preferences). Then, I restarted the computer for good measure. Once it rebooted and I opened Calendar, it had all my iCloud-backed-up calendars but none others. I had their equivalent saved in my Desktop folder, so I then deleted all of the calendars on iCloud, except the new empty "Family" calendar. Then, I used "Import" for the calendar I initially wanted to merge into that "Family" calendar. When prompted, I told the app to save the events in the "Family" calendar. Then, for each of my other prior calendars, I imported the events that were saved in the other exports files from earlier. When prompted, I told it to create a new calendar for the imported events, and it applied the same name that it had previously. This appears to have worked, although it wreaked havoc on the notification centers for each of my iPhones, which gave me a ton of notifications about added shared events.
