Q: My desktop picture changes by itself, why?

Ijust bought and iMac and created different users for my daughters.  We are all using the same apple ID but each one of them selected a picture for their background.  After you restart the computer and try to log in to any of the users the desktop picture changes back to original.  Very anoying, why is this happening?

Would appreciate any help on this.

First follow the instructions in this support article.

If an iPhoto or Aperture library is the source of your desktop pictures, it may need to be rebuilt, or you may need to update the application to the latest version.

Otherwise, continue as below.

Back up all data.

   

In the Finder, hold down the option key and select

  

Go ▹ Library

  

from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists: 

 

  • Caches/com.apple.systempreferences

 

and move the following items to the Desktop, if they exist:

 

  • Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db
  • Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

    Thanks it worked.  I did it on all 4 users and now the picture that I set remains there.

     

    Just wondering.  Do I have to do this every single time I change the background picture?

    You shouldn't have to.
