Hey asafromgb,

If you purchased items from the iTunes Store and the only place you have them stored is on your iPod, you can transfer them to any computer that is authorized for your iTunes Store account. If that is your situation, then first you'll want to set up your library on an external hard drive:

iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364

or

iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449

depending on your operating system.

Then, follow these directions to transfer the purchases:

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
