i upgraded to 16-gb RAM, but osx only shows 8-gb

I just installed 16-gb of RAM: Corsair and MacApproved (8-gb / ddr3 / 1600-mhz) * 2. However, when I goto "About This Mac", it shows I only have 8-gb of RAM...

Officially, the max. ram for an MD101LL/A is 8-gb. But, I've read everywhere that the MD101LL/A can support 16-gb. What is going on?

(1) Does OSx really have 16-gb to work with, but admits to only having 8-gb?

(2) can a mbp (or really even any laptop) run with just one ram module recognized? did one not go in correctly?

__my specs:___

MD101LL/A f(mid 2012).: (13" / 2.5 GHz i5 / 4-gb ram / 500-gb hdd).

OSx version = 10.9.1

note: I'm going to try running "in memory" databases, which I've never done before. I really need to know how much memory I have. please help.

OS X Mavericks (10.9)

That model will handle the memory easily...did you install all of the modules yourself? If you misalligned and forced a module you can cause serious damage by removing with more force than you can exert with your fingers.

Also, there have been a number of users having difficulties with Corsair ram, especially their Vengeance series. They are seldom close enoug in spec for an iMac.

If you cannot remove the ram yourself without causing damage, you need to visit an Apple store genius bar and have the techs remove the ram for you.

You would be better off buying ram from Mac specialists like OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they test and guarantee the ram. MacApproved does not really mean anything.
