I am on a MacBook Pro 15 inch, early 2008 that still works well in almost every way. It makes a very loud noise from the disk drive, which I never use anyway - can someone please tell me an easy way to just disconnect it or remove it myself?

The early 2008 wasn't unibody, so it's a little tougher to get in there and remove the drive. I found what I think is your model, here are the instructions:
Looks like a replacement is about $75. Double check the model # before you do anything.
Thanks - is there a way to just disable the drive without having to take the whole thing apart? I don't want to replace it, just make it stop making noise. Isn't there a way to do it with software?
It usually makes a noise like that when it's trying to access a disk. Are you sure there isn't one stuck in there?

If not, the only way I know of would be to disconnect the cable to it, which means going at least partway through that disassembly.
Thanks for trying to help - no, there is no disk in the drive - wish it was something that easy. I guess I will just have to wait for a genius bar appointment - too intimidating to take the thing apart!
My superdrive makes loud noise(and I don't even use it) - is there an easy way to disable or remove it?
