If you MBP came preinstalled with Lion or Mountain Lion, you can restart into Internet Recovery (Command+Option+R) until you see a spinning globe. This will boot to Apple's servers and their OS X Utilities Menu so you can use Disk Utility to erase your Macintosh HD and then Reinstall OS X (Lion or ML) that came with your Mac.

If it came preinstalled with Snow Leopard you will need the SL DVD to boot from by holding the C key during restart. Then you can use Disk Utility to erase your Macintosh HD and reinstall Snow Leopard.

If you are running 10.7 or higher you can shut down your computer.

AppleID and Password with your OS associated are required.

Hold down Command-R. Keep those held down and turn the computer on. It should boot into the Recovery Partition. You want to select language and hit the little arrow in the bottom right if prompted.

Then select Disk Utility. Continue. Select your main Partition (usually Macintosh HD, the second option to the left.) Go to the erase tab.Check that it is formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click erase in the bottom right. Will delete instantaneously. Close the Disk Utility window.

Connect to WiFi if needed in the top right.

Select Reinstall OS X and continue. Follow instruction for reinstallation.

Good to go.
